Looked all over and no fire... the smoke was billowing out of the fireplace???
We had, had a fire the night before and it had burned out or at least we thought it had and sometime in the early hours of the morning it was rekindled by the wind blowing down the fireplace, it was not a full blown fire but it was burning and there was just enough pressure from the wind outside that it kept the smoke from escaping through the chimney but the flue was open.
It has now been a week and even after repeatedly "airing out the house", air purifiers running 24/7, washing everything multiple times and 100's of dollars spent in febreeze and odoban it still smells like a bonfire in here. It is gradually getting better but it is just embedded in everything!!!!
A big wake up call to us was the fact our smoke detectors NEVER went off... Now we have linked smoke detectors, when one goes off they all go off throughout the house, I believe there are 10 total in the house and they are smoke detectors not heat detectors so in all reality they should have gone off. We have replaced all the batteries and are going to have them serviced and checked to be sure we don't need to replace anything. They are 6 years old so it just might be time... Did you know your smoke alarms need to be replaced? They normally have a life span of 8-10 years.
So please service your smoke detectors, replace your batteries and if your detector is over 8 years old REPLACE it...
Stay safe peeps...
