I am working on a post regarding well blowouts, loss of well control issues and well fire fighting techniques etc. But it it going to take some time.
This all came about after a well blew out here in Oklahoma around 10pm on Monday September 19th. You can read the related article and see the report in a clip below:
Oil rig explosion rocks Watonga; fire could burn for days | NewsOK.com
Everyone made it off the rig which was a Patterson Rig with Patterson Drilling out of Houston, Texas. They were drilling for Continental Resources of Enid, OK. There were no reports of any injuries.
Some houses were evacuated 30 or so but keep in mind it is in a rural area of west central Oklahoma. East of Watonga, OK on Highway 33. As of tonight most all those evacuated have been able to return to their homes.
Wild Well Control is on location and determining the best route to take to extinguish this fire and gain control of the well again. It is not an easy task, and not just any ordinary fire department is prepared for this kind of incident. Even though I heard the local news reporter say, "It is supposed to rain tomorrow, that should help the situation. " that is the furthest thing from the truth, water is no good on this type of fire.
Anyway I will keep everyone updated on anything I hear and as promised I will be following up with a article in the next few days regarding loss of well control hopefully to answer some more questions to those of you who don't know what sequence of events actually take place to get to where you have total loss of well control.
Good Night all and Keep all workin' in the patch in your thoughts and prayers and that they all continue to stay SAFE!
